About this shop

Like a lot of fan sites in the early 2000s, FinalFantasyFanatic.com helped pay its hosting bills through an affiliate partnership with AnimeNation — an anime & import retailer running its store on Yahoo! Stores. The product banners below linked through AnimeNation, and any purchase earned the site a small commission.

These banner images had been transferred to the server in ASCII mode and were corrupted for years. They were recovered byte-for-byte from FieRcE YeD’s original November 20, 2002 site backup and are shown here exactly as shoppers would have seen them. The original AnimeNation store links are long dead — this page is a historical exhibit, not a working store.

Project Majestic Mix: A Tribute to Nobuo Uematsu

A fan-produced tribute album of Final Fantasy music arrangements. It carries a great little FFF story — one that comes full circle right here on this page.

On February 7, 2002, a user named DJ Moguta signed up for the FFF forums, made exactly one post in the Promote It board — “Calling all Final Fantasy music fans!” plugging Project Majestic Mix — and vanished. A textbook drive-by: no avatar, one post, pure promo.

The regulars pounced. teddybearperson: “YeD..Is this advertising?” Razz: “He only has 1 post, no avatar…” Ramza Beoulve: “PM YeD before you do it.” The thread got closed.

Then the twist: admin FieRcE YeD reopened it under a brand-new Advertising forum and added — “if you want some information on this product, click here.” That link pointed straight at AnimeNation. The spam drive-by got turned into an affiliate sale — and the very banner he linked is the one you’re looking at now.
