If you havent noticed, i rarely delete something, I like a record of what has been said.

If that doesn't ring true today, I don't know what does. Something I said just over 24 years ago speaks directly to this entire restoration process. This one was a fun one.

A little backstory — Unlike the previous forum restoration, I did not have this data locally. From what I can gather looking at fragments of old indexes, around June–July 2002 this version of the forum — IkonBoard 2.1.9, of which I apparently hold the only publicly available copy — crashed and all data was lost. I reconstructed this entirely from available Wayback Machine captures, which is why some thread links are unavailable.

A couple of thoughts:

1) A small mea culpa. In the November 2002 restoration I made a point of calling out members for oversharing personal information — full names, birthdates, where they lived. Turns out I wasn’t entirely innocent. Right here in this earlier archive is a thread I started asking everyone for their age and location. Pot, meet kettle. Fortunately the responses were fairly general, so I kept that thread intact. Email addresses have been redacted in case any are still in use. AOL and ICQ screen names remain since both services no longer exist.

2) This was always my favorite iteration of the forums. At least from where I’m sitting now. I remember how much fun I was having back then and I think it shows — not just in my posts, but in the energy everyone brought to these conversations. Seeing these blocky action buttons, the animated GIFs, the absolutely unhinged signature lines... it puts a smile on my face.

If you participated back then and somehow stumble across this — I hope it brings you as much joy as it brought me.
