The Schools...
On a swedish forum I'm a regular visitor too. There's a recent topic there posted by a swedish teacher about the problems at Swedish schools.

He posted an example, wich I've tried as good as I could to translate to english:

Im writing this because of recent events at my job. For those who don't know, I work as a musicteacher in Eskilstuna, and nowadays, it really feels like I daily walk into a new episode of Boston Public

Last year i built up my teaching, putting alot of money into making it better then others in. I got a musicstudio, bought in computers, mics, various instruments, built a studio, etc.

A couple of weeks a couple of students broke into it and stole EVERYTHIN. Nothing of worth was left, three days later 10-15 students breaks into the school and steals 15 computers. They have recently threatend a cleaner and her son to their lifes to get the keys, and then threatend the eyewitness to keep them silent

The students are between 13-15 tears, and are all addicted to drugs. We have several times confisctaed hasch in the lockers and on several occasions, student and former students have threatened both teachers and other students with guns

Most of the students are afraid of going to school, and it's getting worse all the time. Some are high on drugs when they arrive

Until I heard this, I never thought this was something that happened for real, but I guess it does

The meaning with this thread is that I want to ask if it's the same (or worse) over in other countries, so opinios people!

(Oh, and sorry for the bad grammar in the above text, i just translated it right off)

I don't know Karate Taekwando or Jujutsu, be angry at someone else!

Boston Public is a pretty good example of what goes on in High Schools. Kids arriving high is a given daily, threats happen daily, and pretty much of everything u said. However, if the people are only 13-15 years and are threatening to kill...something has to be done about that. I guess because of all the school shootings in the past 4 years in the US, everything in that respect is taken serious, and most people report that stuff to the authorities before anything happens.

But from my experience from high school, it really depends on who you hang around with. If you fall into a certain crowd, that stuff sounds normal, if you in a crowd that doesnt paticpate in that stuff, it sounds shocking. I can personally remember a couple of times people would go to school stoned. DUring a couple of our Senior Parades (this is where we made a big caravan of cars and drove around honking and making noise around 7-8 am before school started) people would get drunk before we took off. Fights happened at least once a week (it was quite entertaining too) and there always was a few girls in each class who where mothers, and every year someone died. So in high school their is certain amount of drama and things can get as bad as you describe.

Proud Carrier of Small Pox. Hey Im getting paid 400 bucks for it, you would do it too.

Boston Public is a really good show, hope it returns...

Anyway, this is indeed serious. I can't say we has it like this on all schools is Sweden, atleast not on my and Highmans, but then we live in a small town, closest big city 3 swedish miles away (thats around 19 in american miles, and 3.171e-12 lightyears if interested) and it might be happening there. I can't speak for that.

Scary stuff...\n\n

Not much happens at PHS.  The Girls' Locker room got set aflame by some girl on purpose.  I know kids who do drugs.  I have played the "penis" game many times over (and for those who don't know, the point to this pointless game is to see who can yell "penis" in the loudest voice.  It actually got kinda funny because a lot of girls did it last year.  We do it in school and in front of teachers and anywhere we can play.  We rarely play, though, as it has kind died out.  Try it and see if you laugh.  It's actually funny, through all the pointless yelling and stupidity).  I have lit a match in class right in front of a teacher and didn't get in trouble for it.  Then again, that last one was a Physical Science lab.  A girl in that same class tried to light a table on fire with hairspray and a lighter.  Nope, not much happens at PHS.  No shootings, no big disasters.  Nothin'.  I wish I had as much plublicity as all those other schools.  Oh, well.  Only one or two mothers in the school, though.  Student-wise.  So, yeah, my school is VERY unique.

I had of course heard that lots of kids are on drugs in swedish schools. But that something like this happens for real. That don't even seem sane.

I just hope we don't have to experience this at our school..

I don't think it will happen on Trojan, but maybe when we go to new schools next year...

Well, I can't really speak for many of USA schools because our school is very unique. We are a deaf school with all deaf students and many deaf teachers with some hearing teachers. We have 100 high school students so we all know each other very well. Nobody that I know of do drugs at our school. We have harassment problems but that lies within a couple of boys. We have stupid sophomores who act too immature. Johnny can explain as he is a sophomore. He can be one of them once in a while (Remember Reindeer?). A lot of immature actions, but no drugs and shooting of that sort not a lot of fights happens but it is a show when it does. So that is basically it.

Indiana School for the deaf: few characters, too much plot!

So far next week, all I have is basketball practices! No games for a while.
