The Good Old Days — Remenisce about the good old days of...
...(insert all systems here)!  You know, I've been thinking recently:  you know, today's games are great, but where did they start?  Of course, they all started with Pong, but I'm talkin' consloles here.  NES, GB (original), Atari, Master System, etc.  Of course, they don't compare to today's stuff, but, really folks, what about the Genesis?  I feel that while we still have good games, some games just don't measure up to the older ones.  Let's take a Genesis game.  We'll use Valis 1 for my example.  If you haven't played the game, the story is about a girl named Yuko Ahso and she is chosen by Queen Varia of the Dream World to wield the long sword Valis and is sent to save Vecanti:  the power of Yang (or Yin, whichever is the good one) and destroy the evil King Rogles.  This game is a great anime game if I've ever seen one!  The animation is almost realistic--it seems more like a Saturn or PS game than a 16-bit Genesis game.  I've seen better animation, of course, but to think of the power!  The music from the game is the best I've ever heard!  Through all the FF Music I've heard, not a single one is as good as Miss Blue (for those of you who have(played) the game, if you press A+B+C+Start simultaneously at the title screen, you'll come to a screen with a picture of Yuko late in the game and the words "Music from the Phantasm Soldier
XX:  Title" are on the screen.  Track 18 is Miss Blue, the ending song for Valis I.  Another good tune is the title tune, also Track 1:  The Phantasm Soldier.  There are a couple of other good ones on there, too.  If you still have a Genesis, I HIGHLY suggest you get this addicting RPG/Adventure.  It's such a good game for a now poor machine.  As a matter of fact, I'll buy a copy for you!  First responder gets it totally free, but after that, you have to send me $5 to get the game.  Check, cash, it doesn't matter, but the point still remains:  this game is more than awesome, it's totally addicting!  There are about 7 or 8 of these puppies, but only 3 are for the Genesis.  The others are either for the SNES, Turbograf-X 16 or they didn't come out in the US.  I know for a fact that both Valis IV and Super Valis IV are in the US, same for Valis V, but I don't know about Valis VI.  The series is great and, for some unknown reason, I never saw it there.  It must be a big thing in Japan, but its maker is Renovation.  If you haven't heard of them before, you will recognize this game and finally know who made it:  the Y's series.  Yes, if you have heard of Y's, you deserve a cookie.  Y's, although somewhat worse in animation, has an awesome storyline and great music, nearly as good as Valis.  The only problem is, the only Y's game for Genesis is Y's III.  I've beaten the game and I know for a fact that Y's I & II are on Turbograf-X 16.  I'll brush up on that a little later, but for now, I'll log off of this topic.
