Epic's Memorial — during May 2001, skepticism began to emerge that POL would actually release and a user named "Epic" caused significant drama by denying its existence. This is a "memorial" created by "Gamer(freak)" in response to Epic's denial of POL's existence and his subsequent ban from the POL forums. Built with The Games Factory (precursor to Clickteam's Multimedia Fusion), the application still runs perfectly on Windows 11 (2026). A rare surviving artifact of early fan community drama and the informal creative culture that surrounded the Pokemon Online project. It has also been rebuilt as an in-browser recreation on the Doors 98 desktop — a clean-room reimplementation whose art and text come out of the original Epic.gam, whose Main and Music menus were read off the running Epic.exe, and which keeps the original's quirks, down to the Controls screen advertising a right-click that does nothing.
An in-browser recreation of Epic's Memorial!, a Clickteam The Games Factory app made in May 2001 by "Gamer(freak)" in the Pokemon Online (POL) fan community as a mock memorial to a forum member called Epic, who denied POL was real and was banned. Clean-room reimplementation on the Doors 98 desktop: the art, layout and every line of text are decoded from the original Epic.gam, the Main and Music menus and the About box were read off the running Epic.exe with the Win32 menu API, and the behaviour was confirmed against screen captures of the real program. Read the eleven-paragraph memorial with Space (Backspace goes back, an undocumented control), press Enter to swap between the text and the statue, or play the Kill Epic minigame. The original runs in a 120x112 window, and its quirks are reproduced rather than fixed: the Controls screen says "Right Mouse Click: Shoot" but only the left button actually fires, the Hi-Score counter is displayed but never written, and the Controls screen itself is reachable only from the menu because nothing in the game links to it.
