The one thing in the FFF Archive folder that isn't a recovered artifact — it's new writing. A long-form retrospective on Final Fantasy VI: The Power Within, the fan-made FFVI sequel attempted by Dream Horizon Software around 2000, written by FieRcE YeD, who followed the project from the outside at the time and went back twenty-five years later to work out what actually happened.
Published so far:
• Introduction (May 2, 2026) — why document a doomed fan project at all. The dead internet problem, what the LLMs get embarrassingly wrong about this era, and the fact that the early web was largely built by teenagers.
• Part I — I Hate April's Fools (May 16, 2026) — the 2000 ffonline.com April Fools hoax, "FFVI: The Shadow of Light," that started it. Reconstructed from a Chinese fan site's translation, an Italian Usenet thread, and an RPGamer letters column, because the original article was never archived.
• Part II — The Dream Awakens (May 31, 2026) — the people who read that hoax and thought "why not." The founding of Dream Horizon Software, the staff roster, and the claim they opened with: "Welcome to the future of quality American video game development."
• An Aside — Final Fantasy Chronicles — a parallel FFVI prequel by Fierce Legends Software, which started as an April Fools joke on the same board.
Still to come: Part III is being researched and written now, and an Epilogue follows it. Neither has a date yet.
