What happened next was largely his own doing. Hobbes wanted to take the role in an editorial direction, and so Inside with Hobbes was born — his own section with a subforum for more intellectual discussions. He brought a measured, intellectual voice that served as something of a counterbalance to my ridiculous personality.
We saw the world through different lenses — and reading these editorials again, that’s still clear. There’s even a thread where I jokingly note that we actually agree on something for once. At some point I mentioned I was working 28 hours a week while taking Calculus I in college, that it was hard and I had to actually study for it. He replied to let me know he didn’t understand why I was finding it so difficult, as he found it rather easy. He may have still been in high school at the time. But he was sharp, I trusted him, and we got along well.
